Yesterday was our first day of “Math Is Everywhere” Week, and the students had to bring in a book about math. As I mentioned in this blog post, I was very surprised by the results. Today, I tried a different approach. I had every student pick a book and find “math” in the book. I know that some books are better for this than others, but it was great to hear what students found, and how the various books reminded them of math. Listening to the video below, I think that the students now really do understand that “math is everywhere.”
What do you think? What other questions would you have asked the students to get them to talk more about math? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
