Last night, I received an email from a parent of one of my Grade 1 students. She said that her daughter had asked her about algebra, so she explained it to her, and then recorded a video of her daughter explaining her thinking to others. I was so impressed with what she shared that I wanted to share it on my blog, but the video the mom sent me included the name of her daughter, so I thought that I’d have her daughter record her thinking again today at school. One of my other Grade 1 students recorded this student sharing her understanding of algebra:
This video is a great reminder that we can never underestimate the skills of our students. Taking the time to explain concepts to our students, and then giving them the opportunity to share their learning with others, is a great way to allow ALL students to be successful. Thanks to this wonderful parent and child that reminded me of this!
What great stories of learning do you have to share? I’d love to hear them!
